Chapter two@5:04 PM
Sungyeol’s pov
After I made myself known to the teacher, I decided to sit next to Eunmi again.
I saw her sitting at the back again, gazing into space, looking like she was deep in thought.
She was adorable. Her expressions were sweet and child-like.
I situated myself in the seat next to her. Myungsoo, who I had met in rollcall, was on the other side of me.
“Where were you bro? I thought you got lost or something.” Myungsoo questioned.
“Oh I was walking with Eunmi. Sorry!” I replied. Myungsoo seemed like a nice guy and I was glad to have made friends with him.
“Eunmi? Oh Eunmi! I wouldn’t bother yourself with girls like her. “Myungsoo stated, taking out his exercise book from his bag.
“Why? What’s wrong with her?” I asked back. I knew somewhat of what Eunmi was like, but I wasn’t expecting such a blunt comment like that. She was quiet, but that wasn’t any reason to not associate yourself with someone.
“Nothing. I guess in a way, that’s her problem. She has the personality of a brick. Boring, bland, your typical plain Jane.”Myungsoo replied, with a matter of a fact tone.
“But how do you know she’s just that? Have you ever even spoken to her?” I said, raising my eyebrow at him.
“Well not really… But do I need to? She sits by herself most of the time, only speaking when she has to. I mean, who does that? It’s kinda creepy, if you ask me.” Myungsoo said, clearly unimpressed with my interest in the girl.
I rolled my eyes at him. If only he knew what it mean to be like that…
“Class, we’ll be starting now. We have a new student, Lee Sungyeol. Please make him feel welcome” announced the teacher.
I looked up and smiled, as everyone turned their heads to look at me.
Well almost everyone. Eunmi kept her head down, doodling on the table.
Amused by her disinterest, I leaned over to her and breathed into her ear.
She jolted up in surprise and sent me a glare.
“You’re cute” I said ignoring her expression, which was telling me to get lost and stay lost.
Her cheeks turned to a light shade of pink and she had a doubtful look on her face.
“Leave me alone.” Her blush had subsided and that innocent, unsure face was replaced with a blank and cold expression.
Eunmi’s sudden change of mood did not have me regretting what I did. I saw her face before her expression changed, the girl had feelings. So she wasn’t as indifferent, as she set herself up to be…
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The day went by fairly quickly and all that was left was lunch and the last two periods of the day.
Over the course of the day Myungsoo introduced me to his friends, Woohyun, Sunggyu and Sunjong.
They were all friendly and easy to get along with. It was nice to have this many friends on my first day. Nothing like my old school…
Although I had met all these people so far and was happy to be friends with them, Eunmi was still on my mind. I talked to Woohyun, Sunggyu and Sunjong about her and they all seemed to feel the same way that Myungsoo did. But I knew better. This girl had emotions, she had a personality. I just had to figure out what she was really like and why she would be hiding.
When the bell rang, indicating it was time for lunch, I decided to follow Eunmi and hang out with her. I had to get to know this girl.
I departed the class room and ran to keep up with her-
“Sungyeol sshi, where are you going?” I turned to see Woohyun flailing his hands up and down, gesturing me to come over to him.
I was about to ignore him and keep following Eunmi instead but as I turned to find her she had disappeared.
“Aish this girl…” I muttered annoyed by the fact that I lost her.
I walked up to Woohyun who was now also with Myungsoo, Sunggyu and Sungjong.
“Come with us, we’ll intro you to the rest of our group.” Sungjong told me, as he tugged my arm.
The group set off and we all walked to the cafeteria.
When we arrived at the cafeteria, we sat ourselves down at a table towards the left corner. On the table were two other boys.
“Sungyeol, this is Howon aka Hoya and Dongwoo” Sungjong said pointing to the two males. Both of them seemed very athletic with very toned arms. One of them had dark hair with a smirk on his face; the other had teal coloured hair with a large grin on his face.
“It’s Hoya and Dongwoo hyung to you, Sungjong” said the male with dark hair, who I was assuming was Hoya.
Sungjong pouted and sat himself next to Sunggyu.
“So how do you like it here?” asked the boy who I guessed was Dongwoo.
“It’s nice here! I’m so happy to made friends, so quickly” I replied, genuinely surprised by how welcoming everyone was.
“Psh what makes you think we’re friends?” retorted Myungsoo.
“Yeah coming from the guy who was scared I would get lost this morning” I replied back, sticking my tongue out at him.
The rest of the group laughed at our bickering and I couldn’t help but smile.
“Any girls you interested in?” Woohyun asked, winking at him.
I laughed at his failed attempt to be seductive.
“Give the poor guy a break. It’s only his first day” Said Sunggyu, who then proceeded to hit the other male on the chest.
“Ouch, I was trying to be nice” whined Woohyun.
Sunggyu rolled his eyes and continued to eat his lunch.
“Ah actually there is…” I said nervously.
“Oh, don’t tell me. It’s Eunmi isn’t it?” Myungsoo said.
For someone who had just met me, Myungsoo knew me pretty well. He was like the brother I never had.
“Eunmi? She’s my cousin!” Dongwoo said excitedly.
“Cousin? Now that I think about it, you guys look alike a bit” I said, surprised and happy to know someone who might help me get know Eunmi.
“I’m surprised; I don’t think anyone has payed close attention to her. I’m probably the closest person to her. “Dongwoo said sadly.
“Why do you think that is?” I tried to ask without sound like a creep.
“A lot of things to be honest. Sometimes I think it might be the people here at this school, who don’t even try to get to know her” Dongwoo said glaring at the rest of the group, whom then pretended not to see and went about eating their lunch.
“And sometimes I think it’s her. As you can see, she isn’t the most open person and it’s very hard to see that side of her. I mean, I myself hardly see herself open up to me.” He continued.
“But why is she like that?” I questioned again, forgetting to uphold the non-creeper image.
Dongwoo was obviously uncomfortable with the question and turned to look at Hoya, who then gave him a reassuring smile.
“Look I don’t think it’s our place to tell you anything about her. The only people who know a lot about her are me and Hoya and he only knows through what I’ve told him to be honest.” Dongwoo said, still looking slightly uncomfortable.
“If you want to know more about her, get to know her. It might seem a little hard at first, but she’ll warm up to you eventually. She is just in need of someone will try for her.” Dongwoo said, relieved to have got that out finally.
“Sorry if I made you feel weird, it’s just that I’m really curious about her. There is something about her that reminds me of someone who I used to know…” I said, unsure of how I was phrasing what I was saying.
Hoya and Dongwoo gave me a sympathetic look and then a comforting smile, as if it was sign of approval from them for me and Eunmi. The rest of the group looked back from Hoya and Dongwoo to me, unsure of what was happening. They all seemed to wonder why I was thinking so much about a girl, who didn’t seem to exist in their worlds, except for maybe Dongwoo’s.
Ah if only, they knew how familiar this situation seemed.
Myungsoo was eyeing me, as if he was looking over me in some way.
“Look you can try your luck with this girl, but don’t get your hopes too high and hurt yourself okay? That’s the last thing any of the guys here want you to be.” Myungsoo kindly said. The others on the table nodded their heads in agreement.
I was touched by his words. Never had I met anybody who seemed to care so much about me, after just meeting me. I was touched by all of them.
I had a good feeling about this place.
